Princess of Aruba

Freestyle world champion, Sarah-Quita Offringa, has been awarded with the 'athlete of the year' award in Aruba.

Sarah-Quita Offringa srcPWA

Following another fantastic year on the PWA World Tour in 2009, Sarah-Quita Offringa (Starboard, Gaastra) has won this prestigious award for the 3rd time in a row!

There are not many people with world titles to their name, and not many that have them before their 18th birthday.  Well, top women's freestyle competitor, Sarah-Quita, could boast about two, and the council of Aruba have recognised her for these achievements.

Sarah-Quita will be competing in both freestyle and slalom this year.  It'll be interesting to see if she can take her hugely successful windsurfing career that step further by dominating the race course.  She certainly has the skills, the competitive outlook, and she finished 2nd at her debut slalom event last season.

Well done Sarah-Quita and good luck for 2010!

Magic Feelings

Female slalom racer, Sarah Hebert, helps to get more women on the water.

Sarah Hebert

Being ranked 3rd in the world, didn't stop Sarah Hebert (Naish sails, Naish boards) from going back to basics with a bunch of enthusiastic women in New Caledonia. In fact, Hebert organised a full schedule of events for her first edition of 'Magic Feelings' and 15 lucky female windsurfers joined her.

Hebert invited all of the female windsurfers of Noumea to take part in the day in order to share some of her knowledge and share their passion of windsurfing. Despite the weather not being at its best, the girls got stuck in and had a great time.  After an early morning warm up, the girls embarked on a bit of SUPing before starting the main windsurfing session. Hebert held clinics on both gybing and waterstarting, which were said to be a huge success with smile all round.

Hebert commented: "I spent the day sharing the one thing in life that I love doing the most, and helping the girls to progress was just an added bonus! I'll be running a similar thing on the blue lagoon next year, and hopefully the weather will be better and we'll see more women taking part."

It's great to see our top performers giving something back. Lets hope Sarah has found the time to get some practice in for herself too!

Twins On The Tube

Moreno Twins

Keep up to date with all things Moreno, by subscribing to the girls YouTube channel.

Daida and Iballa Moreno (Starboard, Severne) have recently uploaded a new video to their YouTube channel. Check it out by following this link HERE. It's packed full of Pozo action, and the headcam shots are a great way of getting in amongst it all with them.

To ensure you don't miss a thing, you can subscribe to their official YouTube channel. You can also watch the videos in full screen or high def mode allowing you to easily share it with your friends and family.

Shot fairly recently, the twins certainly look to be in tune with their new Severne S-1s and their Starboards. With the competition season fast approaching, we expect they'll be out on the water training hard in order reaffirm their dominance on the wave tour this season.

Don't forget you can also subscribe to our YouTube channel by following this link HERE. As soon as the tour starts, videos will be uploaded as and when the action occurs.

Girls take part in the FWC!

FWC Women

Hi all . . . We are proud to present to you the latest addition to the FWC concept, top pro riders Daida Moreno, Iballa Moreno and Nayra Alonso, together with local rider Nicole Boronat will join the FWC. In yet another innovative concept, on Monday evening we will add their names to the hat to draw the four teams which will now be formed by 4 guys/1girl. We are stoked to launch this new idea with 4 of the best and most radical female pro riders in the history of windsurfing. All riders, girls and guys, will be competing against each other in the same conditions making for an amazing contest. We look forward to seeing all 4 on the water!

The participation of the women in this event has been a long time project of the organisation and now that is finally done we are sure that not only enrich the great spectrum of the professional windsurfers taking part, but also make evident the importance of the female rider in a minority sport, such as windsurfing. We hope that with this addition, the event will prove to be more well rounded and will not only serve as a media to promote the island of Fuerteventura, but also to continue the development of the female side of the sport.

Talking to the "girls" the other day we had a great morning just chatting over a nice cup of coffee - check what came out: :4 girls interview english

Olga Raskina launches
first Russian windsurfing camp for women

FWC Women

Over in Dahab, top PWA female freestyler Olga Raskina (JP, NeilPryde, MFC) and her friend Sveta Martynova, recently organised the first ever Russian women’'s windsurfing camp, which was suitably named ‘"Windsurf Beauties".

We're told it was a huge success and that they're intending on holding another camp during the spring of next year.  Over 30 women flew into Egypt from all over Russia and Ukraine in order to learn from these highly skilled women.  If you're interested in taking part in the next camp, which will be held in both English and Russian then feel free to e-mail the girls

If you'd like to know what the camp was all about, you can follow this link HERE to watch the video. There's a bit of Raskina showing us watch she's capable of, and another section to give you an idea of what happens when a group of 30 young women get together on a "Windsurf Beauties" camp!

If that's got you interested and wanting more, why not check out their blog by following this link HERE.  Currently it's only available in Russian, but Raskina assures us that it'll soon be translated into English.

"The Butterfly Effect is spreading around the world. We have just finished with the first Butterfly Effect trip which was in Tahiti this past September. It went over extremely well and we are looking forward to making more trips in addition to one-day downwind adventures." Read the interview with Tatiana Howard on Windgirls.com . . .
