Gold for ISR and THA on the final day
Posted On:  25/08/2010 10:22:15
Only one race today - but a very important one. This is a medal race with a difference -all the competitors race; but the race result cannot be discarded!

Racing got underway in 8-10 knots. The overnight leaders, Mayan Rafic (ISR) and Siripon Ngam (THA), did enough to secure Gold medals and the Youth Olympic Titles in their respective fleets.

In the boys fleet a great race from Kieran Martin secured his bronze medal despite the strong challenge from Chaneui Kim (KOR); Michal Cheng's (HKG) 5th place was just enough to fend off Kieran for Silver.

A great finish by Veronica Fanciulli (ITA) secured her silver medal, but I am sure the biggest cheer of the day was for Audrey Yong (SIN) whose 3rd place in the medal race secured her, and the host nation, a bronze medal.

Congratulations to all the winners; and to all the competitors for their participation in this first Youth Olympic Games.

The top 5 positions in todays Medal Race were:

Boys- GBR, RUS, KOR, ISR, HKG.
Girls- ITA, BLR, SIN, ESP, THA.

and on the podium:

Boys- GOLD Mayan Rafic (ISR); SILVER Michal Cheng(HKG); BRONZE Kieran Martin (GBR)

Girls- GOLD Siripon Ngam (THA); SILVER Veronica Fanciulli (ITA) ; BRONZE Audrey Yong (SIN)
