Wind Wind Wind for Last Day of IFCA Junior Freestyle Worlds
Posted On:  23/06/2013 07:01:46

The last skippers meeting of the event was held super early and the wind was already blowing nice and strong. A single and double elimination were scheduled and completed. French kid Sam Esteve had a great day but the tough windy and wavy conditions gave him a hard time to find his groove.

Yesterday's third place Riccardo Marca was kicked out by Kostya Smirnoff from Russia who really gave all he got to climb up to a podium position and not to forget a last second move that ended on the rocky coast line which made the difference in the final scores.

The winner of the first double elimination was Jonthan Yagen from Israel. Unfortunately he got injured after advancing into the final round for the second double elimination and was carried away by the Medic crew. After a long hour he finally felt well again and was able to go sailing again to complete the final heat which would decide who the IFCA Freestyle Junior World Champion was going to be.

The Final between Jonathan and Steven was very tense, Jonathan took the lead in the first half of the 5 minute heat and some how struggled with performing clean moves towards the end of the final heat. Steven sailed more relaxed with technical moves and a fluent style. Both riders won a double elimination and the final decision was made regarding to the winning heats of the two competitors during both eliminations and Steven had 1 extra winning heat and took the 2013 IFCA Freestyle Junior World Champion title.

Blue sunny skies on the 4th day of IFCA Freestyle Junior World Championships with winds slowly building up. After the skippers meeting a SUP Race was organized and everyone could register to participate. Short after lunchtime the competition area was being set up with thermal winds already blowing at 17 knots.

The conditions were slightly gusty and choppy with a few small waves rolling in from time to time. The riders in the early rounds in both of the elimination rounds had a bit of difficulty getting their groove together, the same goes for the Russian Talent Kostya Smirnoff who struggled a bit in the tricky conditions and lost his battle against Italian Riccardo Marca who managed to perform with a good overall routine.

Steven Max from Aruba had some of the most spectacular moves and is definitely the one to keep an eye on. Steven performed with style and power all the way to the finals against the well prepared Jonathan Yagen from Israel. Jonathan had a variety of tricks on both tacks and seemed to pull off just a few more extra tricks than his contenders.

Results Single 1:
4. Kostya Smirnoff RUS-1
3. Riccardo Marca ITA-988
2. Steven Max ARU-888
1. Jonathan Yagen ISR-02

During the small break a Kite demo session was held and the double elimination could start. The conditions were getting lighter but it was still possible to finish the double. The competition was as tight as in the double and this time Steven got to win from Jonathan but, he had to beat him twice to claim his victory so the final became a super final in the late afternoon with a beach packed with spectators.

Results Double 1:
4. Kostya Smirnoff RUS-1
3. Riccardo Marca ITA-988
2. Steven Max ARU-888
1. Jonathan Yagen ISR-02

It was a great day full action from SUP Races to Windsurfing competitions for the Junior World Title, Skate Boarding a Kite demo show and ended with an amazing Fly Board performance.

Tomorrow the skippers meeting is scheduled at 9:00am because of a better forecast.
