The Schroders London International Boat Show January 16
Posted On:  17/01/2004

It has taken the sailors a few days to master the tactics of indoor sailing but now they have it wired. The action has been fast and furious with slalom, freestyle and insane jump competition already underway. Nik Baker (Mistral, North), Chris Audsley (Fanatic) and Ben Proffitt (JP, Neil Pryde) have all been stepping up the pace here in London with incredible displays in all disciplines and it looks like all three sailors could be advancing through to face the likes of Ricardo Campello (JP, Neil Pryde), Kauli Seadi (Naish, AHD) and Kevin Pritchard (Gaastra, Starboard) representing the PWA.

On Thursday night the intimidating jump ramp was lowered into the pool with 24-year-old Andy Funnel (Gaastra, F2) from the south coast, the lucky (or unlucky sailor!) drawn out of the hat to be the first sailor to take it on. After a frustrating delay while important safety procedures were checked, Funnel finally hit the ramp at full speed and flew into the air and landed the first ever jump in British indoor windsurfing...Wicked...The crowds went wild! By the end of the evening Nik Baker and Ben Proffitt had raised the level with two stunning forward loops but both sailors were put to shame by young Jamie Hancock (Naish) who landed the biggest forward of the evening, sending the crowds into another frenzy!

Stay tuned to the PWA web site for a full report from Sundayís action and donít forget to log on to for live video streaming brought to you with the latest technology from Sportshows TV.
