Posted On:  15/11/2005

The ISAF Executive Committee announced that the Italian Sailing Federation has won the bid to host the first RS:X World Championships in September 2006.

The event will take place in Torbole, Lake Garda from 20th to 30th September. Bid presentations to host the 2006 Worlds were received from Argentina, France, Italy, Korea, The Netherlands, Poland and Thailand over the last 40 days to the RS:X Management Committee. As criteria for choosing the location, the Management Committee used wind data, past organisational experience, course location and the probability of a large attendance.

The Federation Francaise de Voile has been asked to host the European Continental Championships to be held from 7th to 16th June at Almanarre.

NeilPryde’s home base, Hong Kong was chosen to host the 2006 RS:X Asian Championships from 25th to 31st October following on from the success of the recent 2005 Hong Kong Windsurfing Open held at Stanley Beach.

The Oceanic Continental Championships was announced previously and will be hosted by Sail Melbourne in January from 9th to 14th January 2006
