Already 55 competitors from 13 different nations made their pre registration for the MONDIAL DU VENT which will take place in Leucate in the South of France from April 22nd to 27th. Ezio Ferin installed as IWA President 2006 ......... At a recent meeting of IWA Board of Directors, Ezio Ferin, Chairman of the Techno 293 Class, was installed as the 2006 IWA President. As the IWA enters its sixth year a major objective set by the Board is the continued development of 'junior windsurfing'. Supplementing established racing programmes from Mistral Junior One Design and Formula classes, Techno 293 is seen as the 'Optimist' for windsurfing. Ezio commented: "a new class for a new era in the development of competitive windsurfing - I am relishing the challenge of developing this class into a truly worldwide base for our sport."

Taking place from 10-20 May 2006 on Lake Neusiedl in Austria, the ISAF World Sailing Games is set to host up to 1,500 participants from at least 60 nations and with ten World Championship titles and more than 100,000 visitors expected, the ISAF World Sailing Games is set to be a spectacular sailing event.

Following the ISAF Annual Conference in Singapore, the venue for the inaugural RS:X World Championship next year has been named as Torbole, Italy. Olympic gold medallist Faustine MERRET (FRA) and Mistral World Champion Nicolas HUGUET (FRA) took the spoils in Spain as the RS:X Cadiz Race drew to a close this afternoon. With over 100 windsurfers competing, the event is by far the largest for the new RS:X board to date and has provided a fascinating glimpse at the future of Olympic windsurfing.

Around 100 of the World’s best windsurfers are heading to Cadiz, Spain for the largest Neil Pryde RS:X event to date. A line up filled with stars includes Olympic, World and ISAF Youth World Champions, top sailors from the Mistral ISAF World Sailing Rankings and one of the nominees for the 2005 ISAF Rolex World Sailor of the Year Award, with the majority of them competing on the new Olympic board for the first time.

Over the weekend of 30 September-2 October around 80 windsurfers are set to gather in Cadiz, Spain for the biggest event so far for the new Neil Pryde RS:X windsurfer class. Two days of racing will allow competitors to test the new board under race conditions, whilst the first ever class meeting will take place on the opening night.......( more)

Since 1999, Tom Naylor and Christopher Gibson (our website host) have spent most of their summer holidays circumnavigating Europe on their windsurfers. This year they are trying to reach Africa. "We have a new website at www.windsurftheworld.org, which we are trying to keep updated daily. We are currently stuck in western Portugal just south of Porto waiting for enough wind to power us out through the high surf that is pounding the shore.."

After the strong winds of Wednesday, today started very calm, only 15 degrees, and wet! However, all the competitors were sent out on the water and racing began as the wind showed up. Three races in all today and results and photos can be found on the event website

Registration is under way at Sopot. Some competitors have been testing the water but conditions are extremely light with a mixture of sunshine and showers. A great carnival atmosphere awaited those who ventured into town for the Sopot Festival. Competition starts Tuesday.

Formula Class and IFCA Slalom North American Titles - July 19-24 2005 (followed by Gorge US Nationals 25-30 July)

Again new Champions in all categories. Also this year saw Windsurfers of all age groups, from the eleven-year old youngsters to the 73-year olds, at different waters in Switzerland and abroad.

Part III of the Windsurfing Evaluation event was held from 16 – 19 September on the South coast of England. Attending the trials were 5 different manufacturers entering a total of six designs, all conforming to the ISAF Hybrid rules.

Due to unforseen circumstances and uncertain political situation in the region, IFCA and IFWC have taken the decision to postpone this year's event in the Penghu Islands, Taiwan. The Organisers hope to return with an event in 2005. In the meantime IFCA are working to reschedule the 2004 Slalom Worlds later in the year, all options are being explored.

Today's practice races in Nessebar ended with rain. The organisers had dificulties setting the distance because of the changing winds, but after all the start was given and about 220 competitors sailed along the two - red and green - distances. John Reed, Secretary to the World Sailing Speed Record Council has announced the ratification of a new World Record of 46.24 knots on the 500 Metre Course which was established in a 10 Sq M Class Windsurfer at Les Saintes Maries de la Mer by Finian Maynard of the British Virgin Islands on December 3, 2003.

In a recent meeting of ISAF Windsurfing class chairmen and elected representatives at the London Boat Show, Peter Krimbacher (AUT) was elected to fulfil the rotating role of President of the International Windsurfing Association for 2004. 13 year old Daniel competed in the first ever UK Junior Indoor Windsurfing Championships at the London Boat Show. He sent his report to CBBC (UK). "The wind produced by giant turbines was quite strange, there were strong gusts but in the middle of the pool there was no wind at all. We also started by sliding down a ramp into the pool, this was a new thing to do and a little bit scary.

The IWA and its member classes engaged in a consultative process at the end of last year to ensure that as many people within the industry as possible could freely express their opinions in regard to the selection by ISAF of new Olympic equipment. Naturally, it is impossible for everyone to agree on everything, however, three key views were expressed by almost everyone: a) The Olympic windsurfing equipment should change for 2008 b) The majority of the brands want tight measurement tolerances to be established. Not a One Design Class. c) The majority want a free builder class

The South Pacific Games is the Pacific version of the Mediterranean Games & are every 4 years. This year Fiji will be hosting the Games of which 22 countries will be participating. The sailing events are the Olympic Class held on Mistral One-Design boards (Men & Women) + Hobie 16 & Lasers. Windsurfing has been a South Pacific Games event since 1987 when the games were held in Noumea/New Caledonia.
