Daily Report
Day#3
Lack of wind grants the competitors a day to recover
Porto Santo/Madeira (Portugal), 05 April 2003. After two days of hard competition the wind slowed down in the Bay of Porto Santo. The calm atmosphere was completed by blue sky and perfect sunshine.
After waiting for several hours the race committee finally decided to raise “AP” over “A” and cancelled the competition for today. Instead of racing with High-Tech Formula Windsurfing Equipment the organizing crew from the Club Overpower arranged an alternative program for the competitors. I cooperation with the nautical club of Porto Santo they organized a trip with an oldtimer ship that was used as ferry between Madeira and Porto Santo many years ago.
The competitors happily welcomed the chance to relax and to enjoy an alternative view on the small island that dominated their life this week. The ship enabled incredible views on the rocks that rise up to over 200 metres high and guard the island from the Atlantic Ocean.
As no races were sailed today the result of day#2 is still actual: After seven races with two discards Kevin Pritchard (US-3, Starboard, Gaastra) is leading with 5.8 points in front of Arnon Dagan (ISR-1, Fanatic, Neil Pryde) with 7.4 points. The third positioon is occupied by Steve Allen (AUS-0, Fanatic, Neil Pryde) (12,4 points) in front of Ramses Landman (NED-72, F2, Neil Pryde (16,7 points) and Ben van der Steen (NED-57, Fanatic, Neil Pryde (22,0 points).
The Windsurfing Euro-Cup Porto Santo/Madeira continues until Sunday, 06 April 2003. For the final day tomorrow we hope that the wind returns and will provide a solid breeze for some more exciting races.
